A quiet site in pretty surroundings. Spring brings a fantastic display of bluebells followed by foxgloves, and you’ll see a wide variety of birds and even the occasional deer. There is a choice of walks from the site to Gittisham, from Beer to Branscombe along the coastal path or from Ottery St Mary along the river. Sidmouth is a restful resort with a long pebble beach, a Donkey Sanctuary and an International Folklore Festival in August. Nearby Honiton is an attractive Georgian town with antique and speciality shops including lacemaking and pottery as well as a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Nearer to home, the local pub is a 200 yard walk.

Run by the Lethbridge family since 1962, this site is set on their historic working beef and sheep farm of 600 acres, with panoramic sea views. Explore the network of footpaths leading from the site across the farmland out to the Tarka Trail coastal path, including short walks along the footpaths to good local pubs. Don’t forget your binoculars for the birdlife (peregrines nesting), wildflowers and farm animals (lambing and calving at Eastertime) for all to enjoy, plus farm trailer rides around Damage Barton (Whitsun-15 Sep). You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches – Woolacombe’s Blue Flag beach for sand and surf, Barricane for shells, Lee for rockpooling, Rockham for peace and quiet and many more little coves to seek out. Bathing off the Cornish and Devon coasts can be dangerous and particular note should be taken of any local warnings.

In an elevated position, three miles inland from Ilfracombe and the North Devon coast, this site has superb views to west and north coasts and inland to Dartmoor. The site is well-placed for you to enjoy the sandy beach at Woolacombe or the more dramatic north coastline. For walkers, Exmoor is close with 600 miles of footpaths and bridleways. Small, intimate villages, each with its church, heather-covered moorland, splendid coastline, warm sun-trap combes, shy red deer and varied birdlife: these are Exmoor’s attractions which make you feel you’ve stepped back 100 years into a saner, simpler world.

This site has no late night arrivals area, hardstanding pitches or toilet block. Please note: It is esential that all inbound/outbound ferry traffic must advise their ferry departure times in the special request field.

Within easy reach of the historic port, set on a headland outside Plymouth with superb views over the Sound and close to the South West Coastal Footpath, the Plym Valley Cycleway and lovely beaches. Take the children and explore Plymouth from the river on a dockyard and warship cruise, or go to the Dome on the famous Hoe for a hands-on audio/visual explanation of the history of the City, from Drake’s voyages to the Blitz. The children will also enjoy the ice rink and Atlantis pool at the Plymouth Pavilions with shipwrecked galleon and beach and two super flumes. For more history, visit Morwellham Quay, a lovingly reconstructed Victorian copper port, or Buckland Abbey, the ancient monastery once owned by Drake.  Bathing off the coast can be dangerous and particular note must be taken of any local notices.

This site, surrounded by bright heather and gorse moorland, is high above Exeter at the top of Haldon Hill, with superb views and a great feeling of space. Exeter’s Cathedral Close is at the tranquil heart of the City and should be your first stop, followed by a walk along the River Exe to the Quay. Explore Dartmoor, starting with the National Park Centre at Parke, just outside Bovey Tracey, where there are lovely woodland walks. Then, why not climb up Haytor for the best views on the moor. Canonteign Falls, the highest in England are also worth visiting.
