One of the most impressively located sites on the network, only a short walk from the old town, it is almost in the shadow of the ancient Abbey, with superb mature trees screening it. You can explore the old town on foot – there are many historic buildings, and interesting walks from the site, as well as some excellent museums. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you can track down the odd bargain or two at the market. You can walk the Battle Trail too, commemorating the famous battle in the Wars of the Roses (1471). You can also take a boat cruise on the river, leaving from the Old Mill to explore the Avon. A marvellous touring centre, the Cotswold villages of Broadway, Winchcombe and Moreton-in-Marsh are within easy driving distance as are the Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean.

High up in the Cotswolds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Notgrove is surrounded by open countryside. This is a magical little site, only a short drive from the delightful small Cotswold town of Bourton-on-the-Water. You can visit the perfumery, the famous miniature village, and the motor museum housed in an 18th century water mill. A tour of the pretty Cotswold villages is a must during your stay. Nearby are Chedworth Roman Villa and Snowshill Manor.

A real find this, a popular little site (formerly a railway station) in the dreamy North Herefordshire countryside, with daffodils on the bank at the entrance and apple blossom in the orchard close by. You are in the area of the famous black and white villages – there’s a trail you can follow to see some of them, but start at Weobley only four miles away, right off the beaten track and an almost perfect example of an old English village with the church at its heart and 14th to 16th century timber-framed cottages lining its streets. As you are so close to the River Wye, you should explore it a little – perhaps with a visit to Symonds Yat  which offers canoeing and fishing. Golfing facilities can also be found nearby.

An attractive and spacious site, with well landscaped pitching areas, you can’t miss the site as it is opposite the Cotswold Wildlife Park, a popular family attraction in the area. With rhinos, zebras and leopards, children love it and the brass rubbing centre, beautiful gardens and narrow gauge railway make this a good value and special day out (discounted tickets available at reception). Burford is a beautiful unspoilt Cotswold village with the warm, honey coloured stone buildings of the region. On the Oxfordshire edge of the Cotswolds, you are close to the village of Bourton-on-the-Water with its Motor Museum, Model Railway and Pottery; beautiful Bibury and the wool town of Northleach, with its church and eccentric collection of mechanical music. Due to proximity to RAF Brize Norton some aircraft noise may be experienced from time to time.

Situated on the Blenheim Estate, so you will have the pleasure of seeing magnificent trees around the site, which is mostly level and just outside the wall of the Palace garden. From the corner of the site you can walk to Bladon Church to see Churchill’s grave, simple and unforgettable. Then visit the Palace, where he was born and which has been home to the Dukes of Marlborough since the eighteenth century. Oxford (7m) is a must – one of the easiest ways to see this historic university town is by open-topped bus, weather permitting. Within easy reach of the Cotswolds, you can tour Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach for a picture postcard view of the beautiful villages. If there’s time, go north to Banbury, with its Cross or to the Museum of Rural Life at Manor Farm, Cogges to compare the ‘good old days’ with today’s country lifestyle in the region.

With the beautiful Malvern Hills to explore, historic Great Malvern is an ideal touring centre in its own right. Malvern is proud of its famous adopted son, and the Elgar Trail takes in his birthplace at Broadheath to his final nursing home in Worcester. Renowned for its pure Spring Water, Malvern also hosts a lively Festival and Fringe each May and has a Priory described as the finest parish church in England. You can visit Worcester for its Cathedral and Royal Porcelain factory; Upton upon Severn for the pubs and Jazz Festival in June; Bromyard for its Folk Festival in August and Ledbury for its fine black & white buildings. Don’t miss the Cathedral at Hereford with its ancient Mappa Mundi, and the excellent Cider Museum, which tells how the drink is made.
